March of Dimes WalkAmerica
Gulfstream
was represented at the WalkAmerica annual fundraiser for The March
of Dimes on April 27 in Lakeland & Sebring, Fla. The March of
Dimes is the leading national voluntary agency for infant health,
and has a 63-year history of funding life-saving breakthroughs for
babies.
Some local agencies and programs funded by the March of Dimes include:
- Polk County Health Department -- to reduce the risk of sudden
infant death syndrome (SIDS)
- Healthy Start Coalition of Polk County -- "Make Yours a
Fresh Start" a smoking cessation program to reduce the number
of pregnant women and mothers who smoke
- Lakeland Regional Medical Center Foundation -- "Childbirth
Classes for Teenagers" project to meet the special educational
needs of mothers and fathers who are 18 years and under with regard
to proper prenatal care and to enhance parenting skills
- The Child Development Center of Polk County -- "Funds for
Baby Basics" program to educate parents of children being
discharged from neonatal intensive care units
Brian O'Higgins, director of on-shore construction for Gulfstream
Natural Gas System, led the Gulfstream team (human and canine contingents)
in the Saturday, April 27, WalkAmerica fund-raiser for March of
Dimes.
