Community Blood Drive
For the third year in a row, Vincent Driscoll, senior safety representative
for Gulfstream Natural Gas System, helped organize a successful
blood drive for the Coden, Alabama, community.
"I started the event three years ago when I was working for
Williams Energy, and I wanted to keep it going even though I changed
jobs to Gulfstream", Vincent said. "I get support from
other companies in the surrounding area, as well as vendors and
the community."
Participating companies included ExxonMobil, Shell Yellowhammer,
Duke Energy and Air Products. The drive also received vendor support
from Esfeller Construction, Environmental Treatment Team (ETT),
and RDA.
The South Mobile County Advisory Committee is also actively involved
in the blood drive, among other community issues.
The local emergency responders take an active part as well. The
drive has been held at the local volunteer fire department, which
has allowed the group to use their building for the past three years.
"The vendors, at their own expense, cook food for the event
and donate their time," said Vincent. "All the companies
provide give-a-ways for the public as added incentives to participate.
This year, I got local companies as part of door prizes to donate
free dinners and car washes."
And the drive was a very successful effort.
"We had the best turnout ever this year, with more than 100
potential donors," Vincent said. He also recognized the contributions
of the staff. "The nurses worked from the time the drive started
to the end. They did not even have time for lunch because we maintained
a steady flow of donors throughout the day."
Gulfstream has the 'drive' to help make our communities better
places to live, and with employees like Vincent taking the lead
in community efforts such as the blood drive, we can make a difference.
