Typical Construction Process


Pipeline construction activities closely resemble a moving assembly line. Depending on terrain, construction crews can install nearly a mile of pipe per day. The various stations of the assembly line include crews are responsible for:

• Survey
• Clearing crew
• Grading crew
• Stringing
• Bending
• Welding
• Coating & x-ray
• Excavation & backfill
• Restoration

Construction Method

  • Crews can install approx. 4,000 feet of pipe per day
  • Pipe buried 3 feet deep (minimum in soil)
  • All welded construction
  • Assembly line-like process
  • Spread stretches 20 to 30 miles with multiple work teams

Construction / Material Inspection

  • 100% x-ray or ultrasonic test of all welds
  • 100% inspection of exterior coatings
  • Full time dedicated inspectors

Acceptance Tests

  • Hydrostatic Tests
  • Quality Audits
