2005 Grant Award Winners


In November 2005 Gulfstream Natural Gas System announced the winners of the third year of the Environmental & Recreational Trust program, distributing $50,000 to assist in the development of unique environmental and/or recreational projects near the pipeline route and surrounding communities.

Lakes Educational / Action Drive. (Polk County, Fla.) - To fund an educational program to inform citizens of the importance of protecting state and local water bodies. Grant award: $7,600.

Bayou La Batre-Coden Historic Foundation. (Mobile County, Ala.) - To provide a nature park and recreational area that will be utilized as an educational tool for students and the public. Grant award: $7,500.

Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council (Hillsborough County, Fla.) - To increase printing production of the quarterly environmental publication Bay Soundings by 10,000 copies. Grant award: $7,500.

Tampa Bay Watch. (Pinellas County, Fla.) - To restore sensitive coastal ecosystems in Cabbage Key, by removing non-native invasive plant species and replanting with native vegetation. Grant award: $7,500.

Scuba Scouts (Pinellas County, Fla.) - The Boy and Girl Scouts of Palm Harbor are conducting underwater surveying of coral reef habitat in Tampa Bay as part of a long-term monitoring program. Grant award: $7,500.

YMCA of West Central Florida. (Polk County, Fla.) - The continuation of the development of an upland environment at the YMCA Par 3 Golf Course. Grant award: $5,000.

Polk County Board of County Commissioners (Polk County, Fla.) - To create a rehabilitation flight cage facility for bald eagles and other birds of prey at the Circle B Bar Reserve, a Polk county environmental land site. Grant award: $4,800.

St. Petersburg Audubon & Eckerd College (Pinellas County, Fla.) - Raise awareness of beach nesting birds and increase nesting success in Pinellas County. Grant award: $2,600.
