Gulfstream
to Hold Series of Public Landowner Meetings
HOUSTON --
Gulfstream Natural Gas System, L.L.C., will hold eight public
landowner meetings throughout south central Florida July 6
through 9 to update landowners and other interested parties
about the $1.2 billion, 700-mile pipeline the company plans to
build across the Gulf of Mexico from Alabama to markets in
Florida by mid-2002.
"Our goal from the beginning
has been to reach out and be open with the public about our
proposal," said Jeff Connelly, Senior Vice President –
Natural Gas Group of The Coastal Corporation, the Houston-based
parent of Gulfstream. "We want Floridians to participate
with us in selecting a final route for our project. Thus far, we
have received many helpful comments from the public. We
appreciate the support we have received, and hope more area
residents will be able to attend our next round of
meetings." Gulfstream has proposed its project to meet the
need for clean-burning natural gas for the growing electric
power generation market in Florida.
The Florida Public Service
Commission says the state will require 25 percent more
electricity by the year 2007, and abundant, inexpensive natural
gas is widely hailed as the fuel of choice to meet this pressing
need for energy to generate electricity.
